S. J. Hollingsworth probably came to Arkansas from New York. He arrived in Pine Bluff (Jefferson County), Arkansas, before 1883, when he is listed as Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue in the Pine Bluff City Directory. He was admitted to practice by the state supreme court on October, 28, 1887. He practiced in Pine Bluff (Jefferson County), Arkansas, and was described at one time as “the most notable among the colored bar.” Nothing more is known about him.
